We revisited the topic of AI generated images for this month’s meeting. Review the state of this technology and ethical debates, almost 18 months after last discussed, was very instructive.
Richard Baker had updated his research into generating interpretations of an Ealing LIP meeting. It was fascinating to see the biases that still exist with these tools, despite the advances in ‘realism’.
Sarah Wilkie also shared an experiment using her own work to prompt their AI versions and the results illustrated a range of interpretations.
In stark contrast to the intelligence presented by the AI work, Fran Black and Chris Bellingham shared some very personal photographs. Their expressions of compassion and humanity gave an important perspective to the evening.
Chris also shared some vivid street work from the Spitalfields Colour Walk. Images from a recent trip to Poland were presented by Sean McDonnell.
Robin Segulem then updated us on LIP activity and we welcomed a new member Damian Walker.
Congratulations were given to Frankie McAllister for exhibiting as part of Thirteen at the Original Gallery. We then made plans for May meeting which will be a visit to the Photographers’ Gallery.
