Springing

It may not have been Spring weather recently but there was a great selection of work from Frankie McAllister, Arun Misra, Dorota Boisot, Richard Baker, Fran Black, Damian Walker, Gerbrand Alkema, Michael Ostrolenk, Jonny Baker and Sean McDonnell.

We then had a lively discussion on our BEAT show at St Mary’s in September. We first reflected on our previous exhibitions, both to introduce them to newer members and also remind ourselves of what’s been successful in the past. We discussed how the collaboration and concepts behind Tag and Oblique Strategies made for interesting shows that were a little different from more traditionally thematic ones.
We also picked out Home as one that engaged people emotionally but with a theme that was open to interpretation by photographer and viewer. This was one – like Unlocked – that we organised thematic workshops with visitors to the show and local community groups – another consideration.
We then shared ideas on themes and approaches to the space and agreed to make a final decision at next month’s meeting to submit to BEAT.

Our topics for next month are Daily Rituals and Frame Within A Frame.
