We’re proud to be involved in this year’s BEAT festival and present our group show Between Light & Shadow.
We were interested in a theme that responded to the uncertainty of our times. As a group we explored ideas around the debates about truth and reality. Photography has a place in this and so we’ve used the ambiguity of the medium to represent it in Between Light & Shadow.
Truth lives in ambiguity. What we see depends on where the light falls.
Our world is riven by arguments of what is true and what is fake.
Reality is not necessarily shared. It’s in the eye of the beholder.
The work in our exhibition plays with this concept.
The “truth” of an image emerges not from what is fully illuminated, nor from what is fully obscured,
but from the tension between the two.
The viewer becomes an active participant, completing the image with their own
perceptions, biases and emotional responses.
The ambiguity becomes the truth.
We’re revisiting the wonderful light filled space of St Mary’s Church in Ealing where we’ve shown before.
Eighteen members of the group have a created a series of black and white photographs in response to our theme.
